WHAT’S NEW?

EARS is a developing service – it recently took on the contract to provide independent advocacy to adults with a learning disability in West Lothian.

EARS have offered continuity to those receiving advocacy from the previous service (ACE) and one of the advocates who provided the ACE service – Joyce Watson – is still with EARS.   There have been some changes to the service and these were undertaken after consultation with service users.  The new service has been enhanced and improved and will provide both individual and group advocacy and will be extended to more people, including those with a diagnosis of autism and Asperger’s.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

EARS is looking to recruit enthusiastic volunteers for its West Lothian services.

We would like to train a group of volunteers for the following task:

  • Advocacy ‘Outcome’ Reporting – we are looking at a new way of recording and reporting on the ‘advocacy experience’ and to take note of people’s stories.  To do this we need volunteers to interview advocacy partners who have been supported by EARS, identify the outcome(s) achieved by those advocacy partners and to collate the information gathered into an outcomes database, which will report on the findings.

If you are interested in either of the above volunteering opportunities, the please contact Karen Strang at the EARS West Lothian office:

DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE EARS BOARD of DIRECTORS?

We currently have two ‘co-opted’ places on our Board of Directors.  To ensure that our Board truly reflects/represents the areas covered by our services, we are currently looking for new Board members and would be particularly interested to hear from volunteers who are resident in/have knowledge of the services in the West Lothian, Midlothian and East Lothian areas.  We would be very keen to co-opt people from those areas with skills and experience in the following; learning disability, autism and stroke issues, fundraising and/or Human Resources.

These positions are voluntary posts and applicants would, initially, be co-opted onto the Board until the next AGM, which will be late Summer 2017.  Out of pocket and travel expenses are paid to Board members.

If you are interested, please call EARS and speak to Will Massaro-Mallinson (CEO) or Barry Steven (Operational Manager) for further details. TEL: 0131 478 8866.
